What's Sarah's deal?
Sarah might have been born into Kook royalty, but her allegiances shifted when she started helping John B. on his mission. Although she has a sweet and thoughtful demeanor, Sarah also has a snarky and confident side, and isn't afraid to stand up for herself.

Madison Bailey Plays Kiara Carrera

What's Kiara's deal?
Kie comes across as a pretty chill, carefree cool girl, but at the same time, she's firm in her beliefs, morals, and grudges. Even though she grew up around Kooks, she's squarely in John B.'s squad.

Jonathan Daviss Plays Pope Heyward

What's Pope's deal?
More often than not, Pope is the brain and conscience of his friend group. Throughout most of season 1, he felt mounting pressure to balance his friendship with the Pogues and his academic future, but he managed to sort out his priorities by the season finale.

Rudy Pankow Plays JJ Maybank

What's JJ's deal?
Of all the Pogues, JJ is definitely the most reckless, and often the group's comic relief. But there's more to him: Over the course of season 1, we started to learn more about his devastating home life, and it also became clearer and clearer that he'd do or sacrifice anything for his friends.

Charles Esten Plays Ward Cameron

What's Ward's deal?
Ward might act like a typical Kook parent, but Sarah's father is, to put it mildly, Outer Banks' most insidious villain. By the end of season 1, we found out that (spoiler alert!) he's not just a terrible, manipulative dad, but an actual murderer.

Where you've seen Charles Esten before:
Nashville, Tell Me Your Secrets. You might also know him as a comedian; he appeared on several seasons of Whose Line Is It Anyway, where he'd credited as Chip Esten.

Austin North Plays Topper Thornton

What's Topper's deal?
We first met Topper as Sarah's preppy, image-obsessed Kook boyfriend, but their relationship soured when Sarah started spending more time with the Pogues (read: John B.). Although he has a cruel streak, Topper also proved he's capable of doing the right thing when he helped Sarah and John B. escape the cops.

Drew Starkey Plays Rafe Cameron

What's Rafe's deal?
A privileged, troubled, and often aggressive Kook, Rafe is Sarah's brother and an ardent enemy of the Pogues. He also struggles with a drug addiction.

Caroline Arapoglou Plays Rose Cameron

What's Rose's deal?
Rose is Ward's wife, and Sarah and Rafe's stepmom. While she sometimes questions Ward's choices, she ultimately goes along with his whims.

Cullen Moss Plays Deputy Shoupe

What's Deputy Shoupe's deal?
It should come as no surprise that Shoupe — a cop friend of Ward's — is corrupt. He has a tendency to antagonize the Pogues, especially John B.
